I chose Doctor Strange in his Sanctum Sanctorum, with the Orb of Agomotto, and the big window behind him.

I corrected the perspective digitally, and printed it on
Bristol Board.

I did the loose pencils over that. and scanned it.

I created and adjusted geometric forms digitally for correct perspective, and added the globe and candle to balance the composition.

I then did the final pencils over that image.

I converted that to blue line and Inked some of the geometric forms and lines digitally.

I printed that out, and inked the rest traditionally.

I used an 80s era Doctor Strange, so I decided to color this, like much of my work, using the
64 color palette used in comics
of that era.

Since it was  a splash page I lettered it and added credits and production elements. I used a halftone filter to simulate the printing, and added a newsprint texture over the whole thing.

I went back later and did a version with the detail and textures of a traditional pen & ink drawing.

The title Sorcerer's Lair comes from a piece I revisited many times in my youth. This is the
first, a pencil drawing from the early 1980's.

The next version was in ink. It has the basic elements that would remain. A cloaked Sorcerer, a globe, a bookcase, an orb, and a host of small items on shelves.

For the third version I started to play with perspective.

The fourth version was the first time I used color, and dramatic perspective. Despite problems painting the wall, this piece won an award in Junior High

And the final original version. I changed the composition to a square and gave it a more natural color balance.
