I added shading and the background, until I was happy with the direction.

Next I redrew the image, still
very loose, tightening up the composition and proportions.

I reduced that to simple outlines, which I printed in blue line on
Bristol board.

I inked primarily with a brush, as I would have to recreate these lines later in acrylic.

After scanning, I made
some tweaks to the head
and background.

Then I applied the flat colors. I
stuck to the limited 64 color palette used in old comic books.

Even shadows and highlights
were limited color, with hard edges

I did some last color tweaks
and corrections to prepare for
the final painting.

I printed out the image,
full-size, and placed a piece
of tracing paper over it.

I coated the back of the
tracing with charcoal, and
taped it to the canvas.

Tracing it again transferred the image to the canvas, similar to carbon paper.

I went over the charcoal lines in Sharpie, to act as a guide to the
final color.

Lastly, I adjusted the background a final time, and cleaned it all up for the final finished piece.
