Django Unchained was a whirlwind of a project. After Quentin Tarantino's highly successful Inglorious Basterds, we knew this would be a hit, but we weren't quite expecting how big it would get and how quickly. The box office was much bigger than expected, and the movie had great buzz, including Oscar buzz. This really got on the radar of retail which meant a lot of placement and promotional materials, but they would be needed fast

The key art was simple, based on the theatrical campaign, 2 color, stark black & white photos, bold reds, and chains. This extended to the Steelbook, which used the black white and red teaser art, and the Limited Edition Digipack, even down to the disk art.

This was a very effective look and it carried over to the wide range of promotional materials and especially in-store signage and displays. It was challenging to adapt such a simple design to a wide variety of shapes, sizes, specs and formats, especially when individual retailers want ways to push their exclusive product apart from each other. This held true for digital and other advertising.

And it worked. Django Unchained became one of the most successful titles in Anchor Bay's history. And the single biggest title I have ever worked on.
